Dan Zen is an inventor in Dundas Ontario – a town of cyber hippies surrounded by waterfalls. Please check out the flickr pictures to see.

All his life, he has been making up games, building gadgets, constructing cards and presents, drawing mystical mazes, etc. Here are some off-line more historical pictures that if you click on, you can view in a Zen Picture show.

After becoming an Engineer and a Patent Agent, Dan Zen turned towards online inventions in 1995. He has since built about 60 online games and gadgets many of which are featured on the site Dan Zen and discussed on the Dan Zen Blog. A historical timeline is available at Zen Dots.

Dan Zen currently teaches Interactive Multimedia at Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario. This site – inventor.wordpress.com is a place to discuss inventions. Dan Zen has approximately 100 hours of video of invention in progress. This may slowly make its edited way to the blog or may be run in conjunction with Zen Vlog the vlogging site of Dan Zen. Vlogging is a video log. Dan Zen uses Zen Mix to create more interesting vlogs.

In general, the site will be a place to jot ideas, tips and anecdotes on the inventing process.

    There’s a Dali quote, which may be an accurate quote or might be something that Donna Mehalko thought he said. Something about, “Before you can make a good work of art you need a good sleep.” Well, that’s what works for me.

    Wrestling with code or anything, my method is to get to know the pieces that I’m working with. I need to know my resources and I need to fully understand how they work. Then I wrestle with them. They usually win the first round.

    Then, like last night, I give up in frustration. I go to sleep and, usually about 3am, I am relaxed enough to get a little bit of distance and the pieces find a way to work themselves into a solution.

    The creative process, I think, is very much a part of this. Maybe the same thing.
